Now, in all races, you want to have things as light as possible. This maybe doesn't extend to the watches the crew has one, but why not? If this Panerai was executed in steel (as we are used to), the 47mm case cannot be considered a light weight. You turn that material into carbon fiber - the exact same stuff that the Panerai boat hull is sponsoring is made of - then you have a different story (even the same material we're seeing in some other new watches). It's lightweight, it's tough, and won't corrode in salt water. Good start, right? Add a dial made up of sail parts on the Luna Rossa AC75 and you have something that fits the boat perfectly, literally.

You know me: I'm a sucker for a GMT and I liked how Panerai performed on it, so I started to like this watch. On the flip side, I'm not really into sailing, nor have I been a fan of watches that are predominantly blacked in tone. That said, I find myself liking the Panerai Luna Rossa Challenger Submersible PAM 1039, even though the case is large. While it's large, the carbon fiber lightens things up and creates a unique feel on the wrist. Also, there's no denying the way the hands and indexes open on the dial.
